DENVER — The state Capitol was evacuated and multiple Denver streets were closed on Wednesday morning after Colorado State Patrol troopers found a suspicious device designed to look like a bomb on a windowsill near the east entrance, agency officials said.

Law enforcement eventually determined there was no threat to the public after CSP troopers found the device at 10:34 a.m.

The building was evacuated at 11:12 a.m. as a precautionary measure, state patrol officials said in a news release. Lincoln Street and 14th Avenue were also closed during the emergency response.

The Denver Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene at 11:14 a.m. and, after testing the device, found it was not a threat to the public. Law enforcement lifted the evacuation order and reopened the roads at 11:49 a.m.

“The Colorado State Patrol has identified a person of interest who may have information about this device,” agency officials said in a news release posted at 12:14 p.m. “There is no ongoing hazard at the Capitol.”
