Singer Sass Jordan dead at 63

Singer Sass Jordan has died at the age of 63.

The artist, best known for her 1992 hit Make You a Believer, passed away "peacefully" on Friday (02.10.26) surrounded by her family.

In a statement posted on social media the following day, they wrote: "On Oct 2 2026, surrounded by her loving family, Sass Jordan peacefully crossed over to the other side.

"She remains in our hearts, an inimitable force of nature. An irreplaceable being of light and joy!"

Sass, whose cause of death was not shared, is survived by her husband, Derek Sharp, daughter Stella, stepdaughter Brianne, and brother Daniel.

Tributes have poured in for the Racine performer after her death was announced.

Trapeze bassist and singer Glenn Hughes, 75, shared a shot of Sass cuddling her cat on his Instagram Stories, with the caption: "So heartbreaking and in shock that my close friend @sass.jordan has passed.

"RIP my Sasseroonie (sic)."

One fan on X typed: "Devastated to hear about Sass Jordan. So full of life and fun and exuberance. And kindness."

A second supporter on the social media platform wrote: "Thank you for the music darling. Fly high. Our hearts are with your family. RIP"

While a third follower on X said: "This hurts my heart. Loved her music."

On September 1, Sass, real name Sarah, cancelled her planned shows for the rest of 2026 because of a "serious medical condition".

 

Per Fort Frances Times, a statement from the Tell Somebody entertainer's team read: "Unfortunately, due to a serious medical condition, Sass is currently unable to perform and has been advised to step away from all professional commitments for the remainder of 2026 to focus on her health and recovery.

"As a result, we regret that we need to cancel her remaining scheduled performances for this year. Sass is very sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause and greatly appreciates your understanding under these circumstances.

"Thank you for your patience and consideration."

Born in Birmingham, England, on December 23, 1960, Sass and her family moved from France to Montreal, Canada, when she was three years old.

At 16, the star performed with bands at clubs in downtown Montreal before becoming a singer and bassist for a local group, The Pinups.

Sass shot to global fame in 1989 with the release of her debut album, Tell Somebody, which bagged her a Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year.

Following her quick success, she moved to Los Angeles in January 1990 and was named Top Female Rock Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine after her album Racine came out in 1992.

Also in 1992, Sass and the late Joe Cocker recorded the duet Trust in Me for the romantic thriller drama film The Bodyguard, after star Kevin Costner, now 71, heard her on his car radio.

Later in her career, she joined Canadian Idol, serving as a judge on all six seasons from 2003 until 2008.
