Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have had a number of physical fights over the years.

The Brothers co-stars have been friends for over 30 years but they haven't always seen eye-to-eye in that time and admitted they fully expect to continue lashing out at one another in the future too.

Matthew told Entertainment Weekly: "Blood has been drawn. No broken bones. Blood has been drawn, though, and will be drawn again."

Woody noted there had been a "chipped tooth" situation with his own gnashers and added: "Cracked lip. That kind of thing."

Matthew joked his pal "accidentally overswung" and caught him in the jaw.

He quipped: "One of the great athletes of all of time with incredible special sense.

"Such a bulls*** excuse when he says, 'Oh, I didn't mean to extend it, miss it by four inches long.' He knows exactly where every part of his body is."

But Woody, 65, insisted such accidents between them "swing both ways", but ultimately, they always resolve their differences.

The Hunger Games star said: "[There has been] a lot of times in our relationship where we butt heads.

"In the end, we f****** love each other. We hug it out. We mix a drink. Everything's groovy."

The True Detective co-stars' new comedy series Brothers is based on speculation that Woody's father is also Matthew's dad, but the pair clarified it is only "loosely based" on reality.

Matthew, 56, said: "We fictionalised it enough so it's heightened enough and off-the-ground enough where there's really nothing in it that anyone can say to our kids, 'Hey are you really doing...' -- No, they're not. They didn't do that.

"It's just a loose portrayal of their ages and our family size."

And Woody hopes the show can go on for another series.

He said: "There's something in this. I would love to keep doing this."

However, his co-star said: "I'm not thinking that far ahead right now."

Matthew revealed he and Woody were potentially related back in 2023.

Speaking on Kelly Ripa's 'Let's Talk Off Camera' podcast, he said: "You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line. And that's part of our bromance, right? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him ...

"In Greece a few years ago, we're sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mom is there, and she says: 'Woody, I knew your dad.' Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after 'knew.' It was a loaded K-N-E-W.

"We went on to unpack what this 'knew' meant and did some math and found out that [Woody's] dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce. Then there's possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a 'knew' moment."
