Jennifer Lawrence has jokingly threatened to leave Instagram - just hours after posting for the first time.

The Oscar-winning actress joined the social media site and shared her first video on Thursday (10.09.26), in which she filmed herself as she said in her typically deadpan style: "So yeah, I'm giving it a shot and if anyone says anything negative I will quit immediately no questions asked.

"If anyone thinks something mean, I'll know. I'll know. And I'll quit."

Jennifer then posted on her Instagram Story, adding: "Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby."

Hilariously, Jennifer - who has two sons with husband Cooke Maroney - then added: "It's me. I'm the baby."

Within hours, Jennifer had amassed more than a million followers on the site, using the @jlaw handle.

In her profile, she quipped that she'd chosen the name because "jenniferlawrence was taken".

Fans were quick to praise Jennifer for joining the site, and her typically humorous first post, with Kylie Jenner among the 617,000 fans liking her debut post.

Jennifer's appearance on Instagram comes after she said during an interview with InStyle back in 2018 that she's on Instagram, but only to "watch".

She explained: "I'm on it. But I'm a voyeur: I watch, I don't speak. There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything.

"I really don't want to welcome that unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I'm promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won't hear from me."

Her decision to sign up for instagram comes after she previously posted on X, formerly Twitter - although her last post on the site came in November 2021.

Under the handle @JLawrence_RepUs, the Hunger Games star used the platform as a board member for Represent.Us - in a bid to advocate for political reform.

She posted on the page just 19 times in total, with her final message coming about cancelling student debt.
