George Clooney feels that he is too old to run for the US presidency.

The 65-year-old actor is a prominent supporter and donor for the Democratic Party but has dismissed the prospect of a White House run as he believes that the party should be focusing on "young voices".

Speaking at an event in Venice on Friday (04.09.26), Clooney said: "I am 65 years old, and I think that we need some young voices that are coming up with new ideas and some new thoughts.

"I would be more than excited to support anyone but not people who are my age or older. I think we need to get some younger people in."

The Oscar-winning star's comments come after he called for former White House chief Joe Biden, then 81, to drop out of the 2024 presidential race in a New York Times op-ed amid concerns about his age - with the politician subsequently doing so.

Referring to a fundraiser with the former President, Clooney wrote: "It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe 'big f****** deal' Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020.

"He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate (in June 2024)."

Meanwhile, Clooney took aim at "people who peddle in fear" as he issued a defiant speech on the opening night of the Venice Film Festival earlier this week upon receiving the prestigious Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Jay Kelly actor said: "We're living through a moment in time where people in charge, the people with the most money, are telling us to fear one another.

"But we know better than that, don't we? Because history does teach us a lesson. It teaches us something.

"The first people that authoritarians tried to shut down are not politicians. They're journalists who ask questions.

"They're the artists who refuse simple answers; the filmmakers, writers, actors, and musicians who insist that someone you never met is deserving of your empathy.

"Stories are always dangerous to people who peddle in fear, the people who are afraid of books and music and stories are never the heroes in history."
