Miley Cyrus realised her parents are not perfect as she got older.

The 33-year-old singer said that realisation has made her relationship better with singer Billy Ray Cyrus, 64, and 58-year-old manager-and-producer Tish Cyrus - who split in 2022 after 29 years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences".

Miley - who was believed to have been estranged from her dad after he broke up with Tish - told the new issue of Britain's Closer magazine: "When you are younger, you have this vision that your parents must be perfect.

"Then you grow up and make your mistakes, and you start to understand that life is not always perfect.

"As I have got older, I have started to see my parents as people and not just parents - and I would say our relationship is a lot stronger for it."

The Flowers hitmaker has also learnt to keep her romances more private after her previous public relationships, such as her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth, 36, from 2018 until 2020, and love life with singer Nick Jonas, 33, and 32-year-old actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Miley - who got engaged to 27-year-old musician Maxx Morando in December 2025 after four years of dating - said: "Life teaches you lessons, and sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

"This time, I'm a lot more protective of my relationship, and we both really value our privacy.

"He is amazing, he helps me be a better artist as well as a better person - and I love that he doesn't take life too seriously. I needed that."

And Miley prefers a much quieter way of life these days.

The Wrecking Ball singer said: "My home is a real sanctuary for me, and I love a night in. I like all the unusual stuff, like laying in bed watching movies.

"The days of my wild nights have long gone. I love waking up and being fully focused on my work of that day; you really can't do that after a wild night.

"I have been there, done that; it isn't for me anymore."

But what Miley is up for is a return to acting - but only if a project feels right for her.

The Last Song cast member shared: "I have always said that if it's the right role with the right script, I would love to get back into acting.

"Like I say, it would need to be the right role, but it's something I still have a real passion for."

Earlier this year, it was announced that Miley would be reprising her role of Hannah Montana - which shot her to global fame aged 13 - for the iconic Disney Channel show's 20th anniversary special.

And the three-time Grammy award winner cannot wait to play her again - even though it was not always on her cards.

Miley explained: "For so long, I tried to shake the image, but now I am confident in who I am, I look back with great memories.

"If it were not for Hannah, I wouldn't be where I am now. I find it incredibly cool that the girls who used to watch the show will be around my age now - it's like we have grown up together.

"Ten years ago, I wouldn't have been able to say this, but now I am really embracing the anniversary."
