Vice President JD Vance plans to visit Greensboro on Monday for a midterm rally as Republicans seek to hold control of the state’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Senate candidate Michael Whatley welcomed Vance’s visit in a social media post on Friday, writing “North Carolina needs a fighter in the Senate who will stand with VP Vance and President Trump in the Senate!”

The rally will be held at the Koury Convention Center, located at 3121 W Gate City Boulevard, with entry beginning at 9 a.m. The program is set to start at 11 a.m.

Vance’s visit comes as polls continue to show Whatley significantly behind his Democratic opponent, former Gov. Roy Cooper. Earlier this week, a poll conducted by the Carolina Journal found Cooper 15 points ahead in the race.

President Donald Trump visited North Carolina just last week, holding a rally in Gastonia where he likened the state’s cities to “blood-soaked killing fields.”

North Carolina will be one of the most consequential states in determining control of the U.S. Senate this year as Democrats seek to capitalize on President Donald Trump’s plummeting approval ratings.

Vance last visited North Carolina in March, when he held a rally in Rocky Mount to support Whatley and Laurie Buckhout, the Republican congressional candidate seeking to unseat incumbent Democratic Rep. Don Davis in his northeastern NC district.
