SAN DIEGO — Nine members of the U.S. Navy and one other suspect were arrested in connection with an assault in which the victim was pistol-whipped and beaten at a house party in the San Diego County community of Jamul last year, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Deputies received a report on May 3 of an assault at a home on Proctor Valley Road south of state Route 94, investigators said. While on their way to the call, deputies were told that one of the victims had gone to a fire station and was bleeding from the head and face.
The victim said they were jumped by a group of people carrying firearms, officials said. The injured person was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
Investigators learned that a majority of the suspects were active-duty Navy and that many were associated with criminal street gangs, official said. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service was called in to assist with the investigation.
The joint operation ended with arrests Tuesday at Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Base San Diego, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and a home in San Diego.
Five firearms and $20,000 in cash were also recovered during the operation, investigators said.
The suspects were arrested on multiple allegations, including assault and weapons possession.
Officials did not release additional information about the circumstances of the incident or the suspects’ relationship to the alleged victims.
