Elon Musk shares negative urine test after Trump calls him 'bigtime drug addict'
Published in News & Features
Elon Musk took to social media Tuesday to show off what appeared to be a negative urine test for multiple substances including ketamine, cocaine and amphetamines.
The billionaire captioned the image only with “lol,” an apparent acknowledgment of the ongoing discourse regarding his alleged drug use. According to the document, he provided a sample to Fastest Labs in Austin, Texas, last Wednesday, and he received the results Monday. Musk did not test positive for any of the 22 substances included in the test.
The post marked Musk’s latest effort to push back against a bombshell New York Times report published last month alleging he spent much of his time by President Trump’s side in a drug-induced frenzy.
Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper reported that Musk stashed his trove of narcotics in a daily medication pillbox that held about 20 pills at any given time. It also described his ketamine use as “chronic” and intense enough to result in bladder issues.
“I am NOT taking drugs! The New York Times was lying their ass off,” Musk wrote in response.
“I tried ‘prescription’ ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this is not even news,” he continued. “It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven’t taken it since then.”
The Tesla CEO has previously been open about using ketamine to treat his depression.
The world’s richest man backed Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the 2024 election, shelling out nearly $300 million in a bid to land them in the White House.
In the months after their victory, Musk was often at Trump’s side, joining him at news conferences, parties and public events, all while professing his “love” for the president.
But their relationship soured as Musk departed his position with the Department of Government Efficiency, leading to a public online feud over Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Trump at one point during the social media showdown called Musk a “bigtime drug addict,” with White House officials blaming Musk’s substance abuse for the end of his relationship with the president.
